When you are not blessed to have a big house and in most cases that is all of

It is commonly believed that what separates the men from the boys is grit and determination. Although people are rarely consciously aware of symbols of rank and status within the office interior design, unconsciously we know all about them. More important than hard work, more important than ruthlessness, more important even than competency, is self-confidence.

As a matter of fact, you can see the evidence of rank in almost any artifact of your typical office interior design. Take executive offices, for example. I work in a large office, and many of the lower ranking employees are forced to work in cramped, uncomfortable cubicles. Their executive office chairs are nothing to look at, and in fact are part of their low rank.

The executive chairs of the partners, by contrast, are made of genuine leather – comfortable, sumptuous, and conspicuously expenses. This is probably much like any office interior design, and something that most people wouldn’t glance twice at. A closer look at the executive chairs, however, reveals some important distinctions between those who will one day make it and those who won’t.

Contrast the executive chairs of any of the junior partners, and you’ll see important distinctions. Mike Smith, for example, has received promotion after promotion although he has only been here for a few months and is not all that bright. On his plain desk chair, he has added a leather pad. ostensibly, it is for ergonomic purposes, but in fact it conveys a powerful subconscious message. It says that his current status as an underling is only a temporary thing, that already management and greatness or within his grasp.

Right next door, James Jones’ cubicle tells a very different story. His executive chair also has pads on it, but they are merely functional. They serve to help his back problems, but their undecorated features tell the story of his life at the company. He will never sit in one of the sumptuous executive chairs – He has twice the smarts of Mike, but less than half the ambition. His chair looks too comfortable, in fact, and he is too comfortable as well, wallowing in his position of insignificance.

How to Detect Damaged House Siding

Most people are unaware of the extent of damage to the siding on their homes. Water and moisture infiltration can cause house siding to expand, mold, deteriorate, warp, buckle, etc. However, many problems can be remedied if caught early on.

Routine inspection is essential. Here are some tips to get you started:

Look for sickness.

Damage occurs most commonly around chimneys, nearest the ground, where roofs dead end at walls, and where gutters are present, so check there first. Inspect the bottom edges of your house siding. Dew tends to settle on the bottom edge and absorb into the entire panel. If you see cracks (“edge checking”), chipping of the laminate (“delamination”), or rot (“fungal degradation”), moisture has entered your house siding.

Compare thicknesses.

Inspect the panels up under the eaves and then compare with the panels nearest the ground. When siding absorbs moisture, the panels thicken or swell. This is referred to as “thickness swell.” This may occur along the edges, joints, around nails, or throughout the entire panel.

Thumb pressure test.

When no visual damage is present, you can simply push on the house siding with your thumb. If the siding indents at all, there is damage.

House siding damage is usually due to moisture and/or poor installation. Siding can start to deteriorate within 5 to 10 years; however, damage occurring as early as 2 years is not uncommon.

When purchasing siding, make sure to keep the receipt. If you need to replace damaged house siding, note the brand, style, finish, and dimensions of the existing siding so you can find an exact match.

For those of you who are living in a solar powered house and living off the grid. I salute you. For those of you who generate more power than you use and sell energy in reverse back to the Electrical Grid, well let’s just say that; You are my hero.

Epoxy floor coatings can be found in garages across the country. These coatings provide enduring protection to cement floors with a shiny finish that is easily recognizable. The floor paint is readily associated with garages and the occasional porch. From time to time epoxy floor coatings can be found in basements, like the basement in my home.

When my husband and I moved into our new home, we knew that we would be challenged with removing odors left behind by the previous owner’s pets. The person who sold the home to us was an avid cat lover and dog enthusiast and her home reflected that. She kept her four cats and two large dogs close to her at all times and they were equal partners in the house.

After she moved out, there were tell-tale signs that animals took residence in the home. Once we got rid of the fur and the fleas, we were faced with removing the odor. This was no easy task. We tried a number of products that had great results upstairs, but the basement was still filled with pet odor. My husband chose to apply a couple epoxy floor coatings on the basement floor to address the problem.

The epoxy floor coatings did the trick, but at a price. The industrial-strength product is extremely strong and very effective and that is reflected in its chemical odor. The smell left behind by the animals was completely engulfed by the smell of the epoxy floor coating but the latter odor was a welcomed change.

We had to stay in a hotel while the fumes worked their way through the home, but after a relaxing weekend away, we came back to a practically odor-free home. The epoxy floor coating also addressed some moisture problems in the basement, covering mold and mildew accumulated before the wall was repaired. This professional-grade paint took care of two significant odor problems at once.

The basement floors are now clean, shiny and odor-free. The colors of the epoxy floor coatings are limited and none would be on my top ten list of ideal floor finishes, but after all is said and done, I am very happy with the results. The floors are easy to maintain and the odd color can be covered with a nice, thick carpet.

We have no plans to keep any pets in the home right now, but we may in the future. Now that the place is clean and odor-free, I feel as if we have a brand new house that may need a couple pets to really make it a home.
